    Rees Atelier Goes Full Time!
We are pleased to announce the beginning of our FULL-TIME program at Rees Atelier!  Open to only 6 students, the full-time program combines the curriculum of the successful Academy program with the tradition of working side by side with the instructor full time.  Students will work from the model 3 hours each day followed by 3 hours of work from master copies and still life.  All levels are combined in this program, and each student has assignments specific to their current level.

We currently have 5 of the 6 full time spots filled, so if a full-time approach to study sounds best for you, contact us right away!  The introductory price of the 10-week block is $1000 (fees included).  Beginning in the new year, a model fee may also be added to the tuition cost (ranging between $300-500 per term).

    Curriculum
-Every level begins working with a figure model right away, Mon-Fri, 12-3pm*.
-Each student meets afterwards from 3pm-6pm to study Bargue Plates, Casts, Still Life, Master Copies, or the current term’s lecture course (included in tuition cost).
-Drawing and Painting are both offered, but only under the guidance and recommendation of the instructor. Those requiring more time to develop drawing skills may do considerably more drawing than painting in the full-time program.
-Advancement through the curriculum is determined by instructor.

*Thursday’s model session is from 9am-12pm

Our Academy Program Just Got Better!
The Academy program has blown its flexibility wide open!  Students can now start ANY week, and their tuition is good for the next 3 months!  That means if you have vacation planned, there’s no need to wait for a new term.  You can miss up to 3 weeks during the term and still get 10 weeks of great instruction!
Not only that, you can now pick which days you want to come class!  For the rest of 2017, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays are open.  Just pick two of those days, and come in from 3pm-6pm for class*.  It’s the same great curriculum, but better for your schedule.  And starting in January of 2018, you can pick any day between Monday and Friday from 3-6pm!

*LEC200, the anatomy lecture class, is a set time Thursday from 12-2pm.  Don’t miss out on your chance for anatomy- it won’t be offered again for another year!

  • Newsletter August 2017

Please check out our August 2017 Newsletter for updates, information, and more!

    Extended Study for Former Students:

We've always had the amazing benefit of allowing Academy students access to free open studios, as well as access to attend any previous classes they've received passing reviews in.  Now, we're opening open studios to any former students.  For a reduced membership fee of $225 per term, those not enrolled in an Academy class may attend all open studios and utilize studio time outside of normal class hours!  We will begin by offering 5 memberships, and may be expanded to 10 memberships.  Please contact us if you would like to apply for a Membership.

    Keeping it Clean:

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CLEAN UP SPILLS AND EMPTY DIRTY WASTE BINS.  This includes wiping paint off your easels and tables.  Those who neglect clean up will first be warned, then open studio privileges will be limited.

IF CLEANLINESS DOESN'T IMPROVE, WE WILL HAVE TO HIRE CLEANERS.  This will result in a tuition increase of roughly $50-$75 per term.

    New Formatting for The Academy:

The Academy is restructuring how it starts the program.  Students can now begin Drawing Level 100 at any time, without waiting for a specific start date!  The 10 weeks of class must be executed within a 12-week period, so if travel has already been planned, no problem!  Levels 200 and 300 must still begin at specific dates due to model scheduling.  The focus will shift to allowing students more time to gain mastery, and focusing on repetition to achieve excellence rather than an accelerated program.

The times and dates for Fall classes have changed.  Please see the Registration Page for the new schedule.

    Thirsty?

To inspire comradery (and some hilarious conversations) we will continue to have a social gathering with snacks and drinks on Thursdays and Fridays after class ends at 6pm.  Feel free to bring a snack, wine, beer, or non-alcoholic beverages to share and let's have fun after a week of hard work!

    Show Up Early!

If you are continuing a pose in open studio, please show up 10 minutes early to set up in your spot.  Not everybody does multi-week work, and showing up early in your spot will allow them to set up without obstructing you.  If you show up after this 10 minute marker you must work around them.  This will allow everyone to get the most model time out of open studio.

Painting 100 will begin in October!  Plan ahead!

  • Open House

Join us on July 8th, from 5-9pm, for our grand opening!  We will have live music, refreshments, art supply giveaways from our sponsor Blick, as well as the drawing for the free painting!  Check out the facility, meet students and apprentices, and see what Rees Atelier is all about.  1833 W Main St, Suite 115, Mesa AZ, 85201.  Admission is free, bring a friend!

  • Help with our GoFundMe!

As we continue to prepare for our transition we are looking at various facilities and organizing our growing equipment list.  With the goal to offer students all the equipment neccessary to make them as successful as possible, we have rolled out a crowdfunding to include the community in our endeavor.  Please consider donating any amount. Even one dollar brings us closer to our goal.  We also have various tiers of rewards for those who donate, from a catalogue of paintings, to the academy textbook and videos, to (soon to be announced) a raffle for an original painting!

visit www.gofundme.org/ReesAtelier to help, and thanks!

  • Branching on Our Own

In an effort to improve the number of studio hours, equipment, tuition cost, and overall quality of the education, The Academy at Scottsdale Artists' School will be moving to Rees Atelier.  Although the Scottsdale Artists'  School has provided wonderful opportunities to begin this traditional program, the need has come to expand and focus on the original goals of the program: providing high quality realist training to dedicated individuals at an affordable cost, and to help train the next generation of artists.

Our new facility will be located in a flex warehouse in Mesa, near the Scottsdale/Tempe border, an estimated 15-20 minutes from the Scottsdale Artists' School.  The facility will offer better natural light, more space, and more storage for students.

We will also be hosting open studios with live models for students, with a broader diversity of pose lengths (from quick sketch to 10 week poses).  Less crowded open studios with more direct monitoring and classical poses will yield stronger results in student work.

The warehouse will also have a gallery space in front, and the general public will be invited to see both instructor and student work. July 8th we will have an opening reception.  All are encouraged to see the show of recent Academy work as well as the new space.

The new term, which will run July 10- Sept 15, will be held at this new facility. Registration for the first term of drawing is now open!
